MUSIC: Daicon IV and a history lesson on Gainax

I love Gainax. Nearly everything they do is kick ass and awesome. But did you know how they started out?

I'm lazy so here's a copy and paste from wiki-
The studio was formed in the early 1980s as Daicon Film by university students Hideaki Anno, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, Hiroyuki Yamaga, Takami Akai, Toshio Okada, Yasuhiro Takeda and Shinji Higuchi. Their first project was an animated short for the 20th Annual Japan National SF Convention, also known as Daicon III, held in 1981 in Osaka, Japan. The group made a much bigger splash with the short they produced for the 22nd Annual Japan National SF Convention, Daicon IV, in 1983.

The Daicon IV short firmly established Daicon Film for their talent in anime. They changed their name to Gainax in 1985, which is a Tottori Prefecture term for "giant"; but they stuck an 'x' on the end. Well why not?

Its hard to believe their 1st commercial work was The Wings of Honneamise. This is such a cool film and highly recommended.

Anyway, other recommended Gainax anime include-

His and Her Circumstances (My number 3 favourite anime series)
Neon Genesis Evangelion (Number 13th favourite anime)
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (No# 14)
Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water (No# 18)
Gunbuster + Diebuster (No# 21)
Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt (No# 26)
Re: Cutie Honey (No# 35)
FLCL (No# 36)
Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi (No# 49)
