STOLEN: Spice and Wolf novel 1

So yeah I was at work today (I work with the public) and put my book down to do a job, came back and it was GONE. The book in question is probably the best book I've ever read in my life, Spice and Wolf vol 1 (novel).

I don't really want to talk about my job (its besides the point anyway), but for years whenever i haven't got customers I just sit there and read. I have always put my book down on the chair when I have to deal with the customers. The chair is in public view, but it never occurred to me that anyone would ever want to steal a fucking book? Its only £6, but that's not the point. Whoever did it was cruel and just wanted to screw me over for the fun of it. Either that or they were attracted to the allure of Horo. If that's the case I cant blame them...

FYI I ditched the boring slip over covers in favor of the gorgeous manga art.

Too irresistible- Horo stolen

MUSIC: Nirgilis- Niji (Rainbow)

The Eureka seveN sequel is on its way. The band Nirgilis did one of the ending songs to the original TV series. Here's another one of their songs, its called Niji. I've also added an excellent remix of the same song by London Elektricity. Which one do you think is the better version?

REVIEW: Welcome to the N.H.K. (novel)

*SPOILERS AHEAD*

A few weeks back I found a PDF file of the novel on the internet. Its out of print now, and as Tokyopop are no more, I thought hey ho why not. I read it in 9 days (which isn't a lot for me).

The story was much the same as the anime, but it didn't have Sato's class president (the girl with dyed light beige hair), and it didnt focus too heavily on Sato's sempai from the literature club (the depressed girl). Actually regarding her, they only met up a few times and it ended with her saying how much she enjoyed her new life. Sato left her side immediately, realizing he doesn't want his messed up life to interfere with her seemingly perfect one. As he walked away he turned back to see her crying, AND THAT WAS THAT.

Yamazaki was much the same as the anime, though he never attended that anime school once he met Sato, and he became a hikikamori, focusing on creating his hentai game which Sato wrote. Actually this game wasnt a hentai game in the end.

I was slightly annoyed how it never mentioned why Yamazaki escaped to the city, and why he hated his parents so much. This was all explained in the anime though.

This novel missed a few tricks that were covered in the anime, such as the date Sato and Misaki had to do to convince Satos mother of his good life in the city. In fact the novel didnt even talk about about his parents at all!

Misakis life was pretty much the same as the anime.

What made this book awesome was a few key scenes that weren't in the anime, such as regular drug taking, Sato and Yamazaki fighting in the park whilst being high on drugs, and then the time they both disguised themselves to go to Misakis church to watch her make a speech.

The book was written in first person, and then towards the end it mentioned how Sato wrote the book whilst working part time on construction sites. From here it gets interesting, because Sato then mentions how he changed his real name for the book, and that his real name is Tatsuhiko Takimoto- the REAL author of the book. DAMN. This was real?! wait, maybe not, but some parts must have been, right? I feel bad for laughing at the jokes and stuff that happened. If this novel is true then its a tragic tale. I wish him the very best in life, as with Misaki if she was also a real person too.

Still, even if this was mostly the same as the anime, it still felt better somehow. It was a bit more tighter only focusing on the 3 main characters. 9-10

MUSIC: Blur- Under The Westway (new song)

Blur won a lifetime achievement award at the Brits last night. They played a few songs too. But that's not what this post is about.
They wrote a new song, and Graham and Damon played it at War Child a few nights back.

MUSIC: Daicon IV and a history lesson on Gainax

I love Gainax. Nearly everything they do is kick ass and awesome. But did you know how they started out?

I'm lazy so here's a copy and paste from wiki-
The studio was formed in the early 1980s as Daicon Film by university students Hideaki Anno, Yoshiyuki Sadamoto, Hiroyuki Yamaga, Takami Akai, Toshio Okada, Yasuhiro Takeda and Shinji Higuchi. Their first project was an animated short for the 20th Annual Japan National SF Convention, also known as Daicon III, held in 1981 in Osaka, Japan. The group made a much bigger splash with the short they produced for the 22nd Annual Japan National SF Convention, Daicon IV, in 1983.

The Daicon IV short firmly established Daicon Film for their talent in anime. They changed their name to Gainax in 1985, which is a Tottori Prefecture term for "giant"; but they stuck an 'x' on the end. Well why not?

Its hard to believe their 1st commercial work was The Wings of Honneamise. This is such a cool film and highly recommended.

Anyway, other recommended Gainax anime include-

His and Her Circumstances (My number 3 favourite anime series)
Neon Genesis Evangelion (Number 13th favourite anime)
Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann (No# 14)
Nadia: The Secret of Blue Water (No# 18)
Gunbuster + Diebuster (No# 21)
Panty & Stocking with Garterbelt (No# 26)
Re: Cutie Honey (No# 35)
FLCL (No# 36)
Magical Shopping Arcade Abenobashi (No# 49)

My mission, should I choose to accept it...

Hello world! Me!

I've been meaning to make one of these bloggy thingies for a while now. I'm going to primarily use this site for myself, as a place to easily find cool videos I've found on the net. Though i do plan on writing the occasional review for anime or manga, as well as numerous novels.

Also, ages ago I made a blog on Animal Crossing Wild World, from the perspective of my in game character, so I plan on tweaking it and uploading it here, if anyone is interested in reading it.
